Summer Fitness Challenge!

The Goal: To walk 150 miles as a group by June 30th
The Reward: A pizza party at Lake Padden to celebrate achieving our goal - AND feeling great after walking all those miles!
The Report: Originally when we posed the challenge we thought the goal was fairly achievable, but still a bit of a stretch.  Little did we know we'd sell out of pedometers in our gift shop (15 pedometers!) and residents would religiously record their daily walks, totaling 64 miles by week #2.  Nearing the end of May our mileage total zoomed up to
269 miles as more & more  residents turned in their personal recording sheets. AMAZING!
What now? Though our pizza party is secured, we're continuing to record our mileage through the end of next month.  Keep checking in to see how many total miles we've walked! What's your guess? 350? 400? We shall see...
THE GRAND TOTAL: 637.77miles! We walked from Bellingham to Portland, OR and back...and then some!

Wander Through Whatcom Falls Park
Discover the crown jewel of Bellingham's parks.  Originally 40 acres purchased by the Young Men's Commercial Club in1908, the park was expanded to its current 241 acres during the Great Depression.  Walks range from gentle to vigorous. Or, you can content yourself with standing on the lovely arched stone bridge simply watching the rushing water of Whatcom Falls pass beneath your feet.

Stay in shape (or get in shape) with Tai Chi classes, daily stretch and strength classes as well as classes that emphasize balance and low impact aerobics. Join regularly organized walks at local parks, tracks and malls.
